Putting Feet on Our Faith
These two churches are offering practical help to people in need:
Food Service
“Soon after becoming a Christian, I heard a sermon about following in Jesus’ footsteps,” says Ian Moore, a member at Northshore Christian Church (Everett, Washington). “To do that, you have to be out there helping people. I began looking for a way to serve others like Jesus did.”
Moore visited The Lord’s Little Cooker, a new ministry providing breakfast to those in need each Saturday morning in downtown Everett, and says, “that was it—I had found my place.” Today he coordinates the meals and works with dozens of other volunteers to provide hundreds of hot meals each month. Members from Northshore, Overlake Christian Church, and other area churches participate in the effort.
The team gathers at 6:30 am and serves 35-70 people each Saturday. “We usually have more people at the end of the month when money is tight,” Moore says. “However, this year we’ve served at least 100 every week—more families need help these days.”
Moore and his wife, Ute, also cook fellowship meals at Northshore after weekend services once each month; appreciative church members donate money to cover the costs, and all profits go back to the Cooker.
“This is a hands-on way for me to show God’s love,” Moore says. “I’ve found my calling.”

Good Sports
After the Parks and Recreation Department in Mesa, Arizona, cut after-school sports programs due to lack of funds, members from Central Christian Church of the East Valley’s two campuses (one in Mesa, the other in nearby Gilbert, Arizona) volunteered to coach basketball, karate, and soccer.
“It’s all about having fun and giving the kids something to do that’s positive,” says Aaron Pennington, CCCEV’s sports pastor, in an Arizona Republic article.
According to the Republic, the children paid just $10 each to participate in the six-week season and the church donated jerseys for each child.
CCCEV has also coordinated donations of food, gifts, and school supplies for families in the school district at Christmas and other times during the year.
