2008 NACC: Outside the Program

The convention program doesn”t contain all the opportunities for those who come to Cincinnati this summer. Below are just a few possibilities for fellowship, learning, inspiration, or fun:

Before the Convention

Reds Baseball Game (7:15 p.m. Monday)

The Cincinnati Reds are playing the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tickets are available at www.reds.com.

Big Band Gospel Concert (7:30″“9:30 p.m. Monday)

Ralph Carmichael introduces Big Band Gospel””a blend of the matchless message of God”s love with the sounds of swing. The Good Twins will open the evening.

Whiz Kids Day (Tuesday morning)

The NACC and CityCURE, a Cincinnati urban ministry (www.citycure.org), will work together on this community service project at the Duke Energy Center. Whiz Kids is an inner-city children”s program that connects local churches with kids in encouraging them to read. Whiz Kids Day will involve some of these kids in fun activities. Kids will receive a free book to take home provided by Standard Publishing and others.

Golf Outing (8:30 a.m.““2:00 p.m. Tuesday)

There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. at A.J. Jolly Golf Course, Alexandria, Kentucky. Lunch will be provided. Sign up online at www.gotonacc.org.

Restoration Movement Tour (8:30 a.m.““2:00 p.m. Tuesday)

Enjoy a guided tour of the sites where important events in Restoration history took place. Included will be a lunch on the campus of Cincinnati Christian University and a reception at Standard Publishing. This tour is sponsored by Cincinnati Christian University and Standard Publishing.

Creation Museum Tour (8:30 a.m.““2:00 p.m. Tuesday)

From the moment you enter, you are drawn in by the multiple videos, animatronics, and theater experiences that guide you through the “walk through biblical history.” Tour includes transportation and lunch.

LOGOS Bible Software Training at NACC (1:00″“5:00 p.m. Tuesday)

LOGOS Bible Software is hosting a training camp to provide participants the opportunity to dig into the software and talk to the experts from LOGOS. Sponsored by Logos Bible Software.

Ministers” Mentorship Breakfasts (7:00″“8:00 a.m. Wednesday & Thursday)

These events are designed to cultivate a meaningful learning experience between the seasoned ministry leader and someone eager to grow and learn. These events are sponsored by Milligan College and CHRISTIAN STANDARD.

Ladies” Luncheon (12:30″“1:30 p.m. Wednesday)

Combining her trademark humor with solid biblical teaching, keynote speaker Liz Curtis Higgs delivers the message “Embrace Grace: Welcome to the Forgiven Life.” This event is sponsored by Hope International University.

Ministers” Wives” Tea (3:30″“4:30 p.m. Wednesday)

This event is reserved for the wives of senior ministers and will meet at the beautiful Churchill”s Gift Shop & Tea Room. Liz Curtis Higgs will speak. This event is sponsored by Cincinnati Christian University and Johnson Bible College.

Seniors” Luncheon (12:30″“1:50 p.m. Thursday)

In his message, “Dangerous to the End,” LeRoy Lawson will encourage us to leverage the horsepower we have developed though our lives. The Good Twins will sing. This event is sponsored by Church Development Fund.

President”s Leadership Banquet (5:15″“6:30 p.m. Thursday)

Join Thom S. Rainer, president of LifeWay Christian Resources, at this event. He is one of the most influential scholars in the field of evangelism and church growth. This event is sponsored by Church Development Fund.

Day Trips

Children 6″“12 years old can go on all-day field trips with NACC chaperones. We”ll leave the convention center in the morning and return at 4:30 p.m. Information about chaperones and safety procedures is online at www.gotonacc.org. The prices listed expire on June 1. Cincinnati Museum Center (9 a.m. Wednesday)

We”ll walk through a glacier and explore a re-created Kentucky limestone cave and live bat colony. We”ll enjoy interactive exhibits and live demonstrations that teach how all facets of the natural world interact. The visit includes a special lunch and then a movie at the Omnimax theater.

Coney Island Amusement Park (9 a.m. Thursday)

Thrill seekers will enjoy waterslides and nonwater roller coasters. For the milder riders, there is more than an acre of shallow water play and nonwater kiddie rides.
