People with disabilities from across Knoxville, Tenn., attended “Prom with the Stars” Saturday night at the Knoxville Exhibition and Convention Center. More than 700 people were at this year’s prom, an event started in 2003 by Farragut Christian Church. The free prom for physically and mentally challenged individuals, ages 15 and older, is totally supported by the community, according to FCC’s website. WBIR provided coverage of the event.

Construction and fund-raising continue for a new Heritage Hall and a new dining hall at Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City, N.C. Additionally, the school is sponsoring a naming contest for the dining hall. (According to an MACU Facebook post, “The donor who provided funding that would have warranted having naming rights on the dining hall has decided that they want the name to come from MACU students, faculty/staff and alumni.”) Nominations for dining hall names are being accepted through Thursday at this link, with final voting taking place Feb. 18-25. The winning name will be announced March 18 at MACU Rally 2022.

Author and former missionary Pam Tebow—mother of Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow—will speak at the Eleanor L. Campbell Ladies Luncheon at Milligan University on April 2. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at McCormick Dining Center in Sutton Hall. Cost is $35, with proceeds being used for university scholarships.

Ozark Christian College’s Preaching-Teaching Convention takes place this coming week, Feb. 21-23. The theme is “After God’s Own Heart: A Study Through the Life of David.” Speakers will include Michael DeFazio, Jeff Walling, Ken and Kaylene Idleman, Jaron Scott, Drew Sherman, and Lito Solorio. Ozark Christian College will host a two-day women’s event called “Kingdom People: A Study Through the Sermon on the Mount” on April 1-2. The gathering in Joplin, Mo., will feature Beth DeFazio as speaker and KaLisa Veer as worship leader. Learn more at occ.edu.

Dr. Chad Brown, a dermatologist and an elder at the Elizabethtown (Ky.) Campus of Southeast Christian Church, was the subject of a personality profile in the News-Enterprise. He called a 2008 medical mission trip to Brazil a life-changing experience.

“We all have labels that we or others place on us—such as those related to our profession, our family or our personality,” he told the newspaper. “But ultimately, how we respond to Jesus can give us the most important label of all—a sinner saved by grace.”
