When Russia invaded Ukraine, Connected Life Christian Church in Boca Raton, Fla., sprang into action and sent $10,000 to Tavriski Christian Institute in Kherson, Ukraine. TCI used the money to help purchase a $20,000 bus that as many as 40 people piled into to escape their city before Russians could occupy it, said teaching pastor Nhu Nguyen. The Christian Church Leadership Network is planning a regional summit on “Courageous Leadership” from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 12 at New Day Christian Church in Port Charlotte, Fla. The summit will address challenges brought on by COVID-19 and potential solutions, while also seeking to help the church respond to cultural skepticism and intrusion. Main session speakers will include Bob Russell, Rusty Russell, and John Hampton. There also will be workshops. Registration is $25 per person, $100 for groups of four or more. Missionary to Ukraine John Murphy and his family had quite an adventure fleeing from advancing Russian troops after awakening to rocket explosions and artillery fire on Feb. 24, according an article in the Daily Advance (Elizabeth City, N.C.). It started with a 16-hour bus trip to Moldova, then a bus trip to Romania, a train ride to Bucharest, and finally a plane ride to the United States. Murphy—a graduate of Roanoke Bible College (now called Mid-Atlantic Christian University) and Cincinnati Bible College—had served as a missionary to Ukraine since 1994; he had been serving in Odesa since 2003. John and his wife, Ira, a native of the Crimea, have a 14-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter.

The Genieve Shelter clothing closet has relocated to Celebration Christian Church in Suffolk, Va. The clothing closet will be staffed by volunteers from the church, the News-Herald reported. The shelter serves Suffolk and surrounding communities by helping victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking. The shelter offers a variety of services. The clothing closet formerly was located at the shelter, whose location is not disclosed for safety reasons.

Team Expansion recently shared a Facebook post that sheds light on evangelism to people in closed countries using modern technology.
The post tells how Michael (a pseudonym) had to leave his family and flee his home in Yemen due to political persecution. In his refuge country (in Southeast Asia), Michael became a Christian after an online Zume course with Doug Lucas, president of Team Expansion. Michael now has a social media ministry where he reaches out to Yemeni people all over the world. He shared the gospel with Kevin, who lives in Yemen. Kevin traveled to another country to be baptized because he could not find a trusted Christian in Yemen to baptize him. Kevin later traveled to another city within Yemen to baptize Joseph. Michael had connected with Joseph on social media and shared the gospel with him.
