Ozark Christian College’s Preaching-Teaching Convention met exclusively online in 2021, but last week about 1,200 gathered in Joplin, Mo., for the annual event.
“It feels like coming home again,” OCC president Matt Proctor said of the gathering, which is geared toward OCC alumni and friends of the college but is also open to others serving in ministry and current students.
“It’s like continuing education for folks in ministry, whether they’re vocational ministers or volunteers at church,” Proctor told the Joplin Globe for an excellent article last Friday. “Those practical workshops are helping them hone their skills and become aware of new areas of learning.”
The Seth Wilson Outstanding Alumnus Award was presented to Ron and Pat Morse of North Burma Christian Mission, part of five generations of missionaries serving Myanmar and Thailand, and to Drew and Michelle Sherman of Compass Christian Church in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, who have helped grow the church from 800 to 8,000 over the past 20 years. Outstanding video tributes to the Morses and Shermans also were shown.

CMF International announced via Facebook that IDES (International Disaster Emergency Service) has approved a $112,000 grant to provide food for undernourished families in all the districts in Kenya where Community Christian Church is present. CCC is the indigenous church planted and discipled by CMF missionaries among the Turkana and Maasai. Kenya is suffering through a severe drought.

St. Louis Christian College is planning a reunion from 1 to 3 p.m. April 30. “Join us for a very special celebration. . . . All supporting churches and individuals, and alumni are invited to tour the campus one last time and enjoy a time of fellowship with friends and classmates.” SLCC is merging with Central Christian College of the Bible, Moberly, Mo., with resident undergraduate students invited to relocate to the CCCB campus in the fall.

IDES (International Disaster Emergency Service) has planned “31 Days of Prayer & Fasting for Ukraine” during March. People can sign up for daily reminders and prayer prompts at ides.org.
IDES suggests praying every day at a set time (the ministry has proposed 1 p.m. in your time zone) along with fasting every Monday during March (examples include fasting from food, social media, TV, or any other outlet that takes your focus away from the suffering that is occurring in Ukraine).
The ministry also endeavors to share updates from ministry partners in Ukraine and neighboring countries.

Point University athletic director Jaunelle White recently was profiled as one of the “100 Influential Black Women in Sports” in Sports Illustrated “We’re building student-athletes holistically,” White told the magazine; she said the students are athletes, but they are people first.

More than 150 girls searched through clothing racks at Norwin Christian Church, North Huntingdon, Pa., to find their perfect prom dress from among the 900 or so that had been donated, according to triblive.com. It was the second year for the Dressed in Joy event at the church. In addition to dresses, the free event included shoes, jewelry, and makeup. The event was hosted by the church’s Blessings Boutique.
