Richard Westerlund, director of athletics and head menโ€™s basketball coach at Great Lakes Christian University (Lansing, Mich.) since 2018, resigned recently to become the head coach at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima. Several days later, GLCCโ€™s head womenโ€™s soccer coach Sam Sibilski was hired as the new director of athletics, replacing Westerlund.

Westerlund enjoyed great success at GLCC, as has Sibilski. As a coach, Westerlundโ€™s teams won 101 games in five years and advanced to the national tournament four times. In 2020, he hired Sibilski, whose soccer squad won a national championship in 2021.

GLCC posted articles about Westerlundโ€™s departure and Sibilskiโ€™s hiring as new director of athletics.
