Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and his wife, Maria, stopped at Boones Creek Christian Church in Johnson City on Friday and spoke with participants of a nonprofit program for adults with intellectual disabilities, according to the Johnson City Press. The Brother’s Keeper nonprofit enrichment program housed at the church provides services to 18 participants.

Founded in 2014, Brother’s Keeper offers lifelong training opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities after they graduate from high school. The faith-based program provides participants with opportunities to learn art, cooking, and gardening skills, as well as work on their vocabulary and reading comprehension.

Brother’s Keeper is part of the first lady’s Tennessee Serves initiative, which promotes community service as a way to help transform distressed areas of the state, the newspaper said.

Archived issues of Christian Standard going back to 1978 are now available to readers and researchers. To access these issues, go to our home page and click on “Archived Christian Standard Issues.” We have added about 25 years’ worth of issues since announcing this initiative a few weeks ago.

The archiving of these issues into a digital format has taken a major investment of time and resources, but it continues to be a work in process. We plan is to make digital issues available clear back to 1967.

In that same portion of the CS home page, you also can access classic Christian Standard articles, Communion meditations, and booklets, along with Next Level Studies from Ozark Christian College and Open Network Children’s Ministry Resources.

Great Lakes Christian College is offering its Introduction to Biblical Interpretation class to high schoolers for credit . . . and at a deep discount.

“I share the concern of Restoration Movement leaders over the shrinking number of students preparing for church leadership,” said GLCC president Dr. Frank Weller. ‘This initiative has the potential to put more students in the ministry pipeline and help address the ministerial shortage that Christian Churches and Churches of Christ see on the horizon.”

High school students who commit to the dual-enrollment initiative by Sept. 15 will pay $150 for the class, with other fees waived. High schoolers who dual enroll normally pay $450, and traditional students normally pay $1,185 for this online course.

The seven-week online course is taught by Dr. Samuel Long, GLCC’s professor of Old Testament. The course begins Oct. 17. Learn more and apply at www.glcc.edu.
