International Conference On Missions executive director David Empson shared a mostly positive wrap-up report on November’s gathering in Oklahoma City. Empson praised the Oklahoma churches, convention center, and President Stephanie Freed. He also mentioned that, despite the many successes, the offering and hotel bookings came up a little short. Orchard Group produced an interesting 7-minute video detailing its early history and also its leaders’ hopes for the future. The organization started as “Go Ye” Chapel Mission 75 years ago. 

“We want the next 25 years to be even more fruitful than the first 75 years,” President Brent Storms wrote, “more churches planted, more people reached, and more new believers baptized.”

The new Commonwealth Commitment Grant at Kentucky Christian University is designed to eliminate financial barriers for individuals from lower-income families. 

Eligibility is open to all Kentucky residents who receive at least a partial Pell Grant and Kentucky state grant funding. To apply, students need to complete the application process for both admission to KCU and the Commonwealth Grant through KCU’s online platform. Students must include KCU’s school code (001965) when completing the FAFSA application. 

Grants will primarily be awarded based on financial need. Students receiving this grant will have zero out-of-pocket costs for all four years at KCU. Detailed information can be found at KCU’s website; applicants should click on the large tile labeled “Scholarships.”

The 4C Ministry Institute and Great Lakes Christian College have finalized an agreement which enables 4CMI graduates to complete their bachelor’s degree at GLCC.

4CMI helps students prepare for “effective, relevant, and sustainable ministry” through unaccredited classroom courses, hands-on residency experiences, and discipleship training—all for zero tuition or fees and with the convenience of being able to complete programs anywhere across the country. 4CMI graduates can transfer to GLCC with three semesters of a bachelor’s degree in hand. GLCC (Lansing, Mich.) has been training students to be servant leaders in the church and world since 1949.

Johnson University will conduct a Church Leadership Conference on “Deconstructing Doubt” on March 2, 2024.  

“Whether you are a pastor, a skeptic, or someone who longs to have solid answers for an unbelieving neighbor,” writes JU, “join us on March 2 as we deconstruct doubt.” 

Andy Hudelson, senior minister with Wellspring Christian Church, Spring Hill, Tenn., will be the presenter. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Russell Preaching Center on the Knoxville campus. Cost is $10 for those who register by Jan. 31; $20 thereafter (lunch is included). Christian Financial Resources is the event sponsor.

Celtic Christian Mission will host their annual Celtic Christian Ireland Tour from June 21-29, 2024. Tour participants will have a wonderful opportunity to see and experience the beauty of Ireland. Cost is $2,500, which includes each person’s flight from Chicago, housing in Ireland, transportation while in Ireland, admission fees, and most meals. Great Lakes Christian College has hired Dr. Charlie W. Starr as professor of English and humanities. Starr has served more than 30 years as an educator, including with Kentucky Christian University. He has written four novels, five non-fiction books, and several short stories, scholarly articles, news articles, and essays. He formerly wrote a column on faith and culture for The Lookout. Starr also is a leading expert on C.S. Lewis (especially Lewis’s handwriting).
