A Day for Church Planting

Last Sunday was 10-10-10 (October 10, 2010)–and churches developed several creative ways to celebrate the day. Some encouraged inviting others to church or talking to 10 people about Jesus; others collected special offerings or suggested members begin tithing.

And some planted new churches! The team behind the Exponential Conference developed the 10-10-10 Initiative to focus attention on church planting. Individuals and congregations participated by praying, adopting a church plant for encouragement and financial support, or helping a new church hold its first services.

In addition, Stadia: New Church Strategies (Irvine, California) asked each of its plants and partnering churches to take a special offering on October 10 for future church plants.

“It’s more than just a day,” says Brent Foulke, Stadia’s associate executive director for mobilization. “It’s a cross-denominational focus and a call to action to launch new churches this fall.”

Among the new churches starting on Sunday were The Hills Christian Church (Bethel Park, PA); Bridge Christian Church (Chattanooga, TN); Elevation Christian Church (Aurora, CO); The Mill Church (Owings Mills, MD); Journey Church (Medina, TN); Ranchland Christian Church (McKinney, TX); The Journey, a Christian Church (Lehi, UT); Revolution Church (Annapolis, MD); and a new Christian Missionary Fellowship church plant in the Rugby-Cawston area of England.
