G.R. Beasley-Murray, Baptism in the New Testament (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1962). The most detailed work on the subject, from a British Baptist scholar.

G.R. Beasley-Murray, “Baptism, Wash,” New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology Vol. 1 (Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1975″“85), 143-161. A briefer version of material found in the same author”s book.

G.R. Beasley-Murray, “Baptism,” Dictionary of Paul and His Letters (Downers Grove: InterVarsity), 60″“66. As above, with particular focus on Paul”s letters.

Jack Cottrell, Baptism: A Biblical Study (Joplin: College Press, 2006). A thorough, exceptionally clear exposition of New Testament texts dealing with baptism.

Robert H. Stein, “Baptism and Becoming a Christian in the New Testament,” Southern Baptist Journal of Theology 2, 1998, 6-17. A remarkable article by an esteemed Baptist scholar from the United States, presenting conversion in five parts: repentance, faith and confession by the convert, regeneration or the gift of the Holy Spirit by God, and the administration of baptism by representatives of the Christian community.

Jon A. Weatherly, “The Role of Baptism in Conversion: Israel’s Promises Fulfilled for the Believer in Jesus,” in Evangelicalism and the Stone-Campbell Movement, ed. by William R. Baker (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 2002), 159-75. This author’s more thorough treatment of the issues presented in the present article, including documentation of the consensus on the issue among New Testament scholars.
