Mission Journeys โ Organization Profile
Mission Journeys is a Christian mission organization based in Lexington, Kentucky. The ministry describes itself as a mission and ministry of non-denominational Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, with the public theme โLiving Out the Great Commission.โ Its work includes mission trips, Bible training, long-term missionary support, Appalachian outreach, and leadership development.
The organizationโs core focus is helping churches and individuals fulfill the Great Commission through evangelism, discipleship, leadership development, mission trips, and support for local, regional, and international mission work. Mission Journeys states that it exists to direct people to Jesus as Lord and Savior, assist churches with leadership and strategic planning, give Christians a heart for missions and the lost, coordinate mission trips and projects, and support mission work.
Mission Journeys serves from Lexington, Kentucky, with ongoing ministry efforts in Appalachia and Eastern Kentucky. The organization also has full-time missionaries serving in Belize, Central America, and its Global Bible School outreach is active in the Philippines, Kenya, Guyana, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Pakistan. Its website also highlights work in Guyana, Tanzania, Leyte in the Philippines, and Islamabad, Pakistan.
The ministry began through Teen Mission, USA, which was founded in 1970. Mission Journeys was born after a mission trip to Haiti in 1985 and later became the ministryโs primary working name in 2010. Over time, its short-term teams have helped start congregations, build church buildings, repair childrenโs homes, schools, and homes for the elderly, assist disaster recovery, preach, teach, baptize, strengthen new Christians, and encourage missionaries.
A distinctive part of Mission Journeysโ current work is combining short-term mission trips with longer-term Bible training and full-time ministry partnerships. Its Global Bible School began in 2005 and has become a major priority, training church leaders and providing Bible study opportunities in multiple countries. The Barnabas Project, launched in 2010, supports year-round ministry in Belize, including work among disadvantaged people and at-risk children from a ministry center near Belmopan.
People can engage with Mission Journeys by giving, praying, joining mission trips, supporting Global Bible School, helping the Appalachian Christmas Project, or contacting the ministry about service opportunities. Current trip opportunities include Eastern Kentucky, Belize, and Guyana, with work such as home repairs, needed distributions, VBS, worship, witnessing, cross-cultural evangelism, discipleship, church planting support, medical clinics, and youth, music, or sports camps.
