Barna Group has released its list of “The Most Post-Christian Cities in America: 2019.” Eight of the cities and/or metropolitan areas are in the Northeast, while two are in the far West. The top three “Most Post-Christian Cities” are Springfield-Holyoke, Mass., followed by Portland-Auburn, Maine, and Providence, R.I./New Bedford, Mass. The Friendly Atheist website celebrated the news and referred to the list this way: “These are the cities where religion is most likely to be considered an afterthought.”

Two of our universities recently made Niche.com’s list of the “Best College Dorms in America.” Johnson University, Knoxville, Tenn., was No. 3, while William Jessup University, Rocklin, Calif., came in at No. 35.

Wilmington (Ohio) Church of Christ sponsored an appreciation dinner for foster parents, in partnership with a local family services agency. Eight foster families attended the event and represented nearly 50 years of foster care experience, the News Journal reported. May was Foster Parent Appreciation Month.

Dr. William “Bill” Ely, 87, a professor with Great Lakes Christian College from 1968 to 1997, died May 11 in Elizabethton, Tenn. He taught in the areas of science, logic, and ethics. Memorial Funeral Chapel handled the arrangements.

Members of RiverTree Christian Church in Massillon, Ohio, took part in “Impact Massillon” day, when 600 volunteers from churches in the community helped spruce up 30 homes. A dozen churches helped in the effort, according to IndeOnline.com. Volunteers trimmed trees, built patios and sidewalks, and mowed lawns, among other tasks.

Wentzville (Mo.) Christian Church hosted a summer drama camp for kids. According to 70 West Sentinel, 70 kids ranging from third-graders through ninth-graders participated in the production of Aladdin Jr.

Jeffrey Derico was appointed dean of the Russell School of Ministry at Cincinnati Christian University, effective June 1. Derico is a two-time graduate of CCU who has served in multiple roles at the school.
