Dallas Christian’s Basketball Team Drops Game to Texas A&M

Dallas Christian College’s men’s basketball team lost to Texas A&M University by a score of 102-52 on Monday. The game took place at Reed Arena on A&M’s campus in Bryan Station, Texas.

The impromptu and unlikely matchup came together after Tulane University canceled its Dec. 14 game with the Division I Aggies due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Texas A&M (10-2) was seeking an opponent that wouldn’t need to fly to their campus for the quick turnaround game, according to a story in The Eagle.

“I would say for several of [our players], this is a special, special night, playing an SEC school and getting an opportunity to play in an arena like this,” said DCC athletic director Gregg Mucerino. “It’s a blessing and I’m glad we were able to work it out.”

Dallas Christian College (1-3), a National Christian College Athletic Association Division II program, received a $10,000 payout for the game, the newspaper said. Mucerino said the game should help DCC with recruiting.

“Not everyone can be at Texas A&M, right?” Mucerino told the newspaper. “But the opportunity to continue to play collegiately is available at all levels.”

Texas A&M has an undergraduate enrollment of about 55,000. In 2020-21, the number of traditional students attending DCC was approximately 150.
