News Briefs

Team Expansion is reporting an urgent need in Turkey, ravaged by recent earthquakes. And the earthquakes “aren’t stopping in the country,” writes Doug Lucas, president of Team Expansion.

“Every day there are more earthquakes of at least a 5.0 magnitude in different cities.” One of the ministry’s aid teams was caught in a recent quake that originated close to their location. The very cold weather is exasperating the situation, as people whose homes were destroyed need shelter.
Aid teams continue to distribute food, clothes, blankets, and stoves to villages in the region. And, says Lucas, “we continue to love as the Lord commanded us, not only with words . . . but with actions and in truth. We share in the suffering of the people [in] Turkey, mourning and weeping with them but also comforting them with our love.”

The situation in Turkey is rapidly developing, but they are in immediate need of at least 100 additional tents. Also, prayer is needed for the earthquakes to stop, more supplies, the workers, and more. Learn more and give at TeamExpansion.org.

“The Opening Year”: A Christian Standard Editorial from 1875

In his editorial for the start of 1875, Christian Standard’s founding editor, Isaac Errett, offered 5 suggestions to his readers that will enable them to “consecrate” themselves anew to Christ’s service in the forthcoming year. Though Errett’s suggestions are nearly 150 years old (originally published on January 2, 1875), we believe his comments are just as valuable today as they were when they were first published.
