With their victory Sunday, the STUNT team from Jessup University has now won back-to-back NAIA National Championships in only their third season. The Warriors claimed their second title with a 17-11 victory over Vanguard University at the 2023 STUNT Nationals at Edmonds, Okla.

In 2022, Jessup University (Rocklin, Calif.) also defeated Vanguard University (Costa Mesa, Calif.) to win the title.

“As a third-year program, to be able to have back-to-back national championships is just so amazing,” head coach Alexis Blunk said in comments at Jessup’s website. “We have a great group of kids who work really hard, and they’ve been working their butts off all year long to repeat that championship title.”

STUNT is the fastest-growing female sport in the country, according to stuntthesport.org. It focuses on the technical and athletic components of cheer, including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps, and tumbling. Competing teams simultaneously perform the same routines side-by-side over the course of four quarters.

Jessup has applied to join NCAA Division II in STUNT after the 2024 season.

The team from Hope International University (Fullerton, Calif.) finished third at the 2023 STUNT Nationals.

Great Assists

Great assists happen every day in classrooms, offices, factories, and hospitals as people quietly meet needs. Not everyone is a general who leads troops into battle. Many are like Clara Barton, who assisted behind the scenes as a nurse, a cook, and an advocate for the wounded.
