A ribbon cutting for the new Heritage Hall at Mid-Atlantic Christian University will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday. The event is sponsored by the Elizabeth City (N.C.) Chamber of Commerce. The school’s main classroom building was totally rebuilt after the original Heritage Hall suffered a partial collapse back in September 2020 during a roofing project. See our article from last month.

First Christian Church in Fort Myers, Fla., is planning special activities for Nov. 10 and 12 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the congregation. The anniversary’s theme is “This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song.” A night of worship starting at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 will feature music from the past 10 decades. A special exhibit of church history will be unveiled. 

And then, a celebratory service is planned for 10:30 Nov. 12, followed by a picnic reception. 

To commemorate First Christian Church’s 100 years of ministry, the congregation is currently completing 100 Acts of Service throughout Lee County, according to an article at Florida Weekly

FCC has been meeting at the same location since 1931. The church has the distinction of being the first place of worship in Fort Myers with air conditioning.

The Christian Church of Litchfield (Ill.) celebrated their 50th anniversary on Oct. 1 by hosting a fellowship meal, followed by a celebration service that included songs of praise, Scripture reading, and testimonies from the congregation. Speakers included a founding member, former ministers, and a missionary partner who also grew up in the church. The theme was “Celebrating Fifty Years of God’s Faithfulness in Litchfield.” Pastor Tim Barbee also shared a brief message from 1 Timothy 3:14-16.

Jane and Howard Norton, 87 and 88, respectively, died 17 days apart in October. Together, they had served as missionaries to Brazil and with Oklahoma Christian University. In 1981, Howard helped revive The Christian Chronicle, a magazine for the noninstrumental Churches of Christ. He served as editor until 1996. He later served on the Bible faculty at Harding University and edited Church and Family magazine. The Chronicle reported on the couple’s passing.

Sam Stone wrote in 1962, “If the early leaders of the Restoration movement are like men engaged in a race, it might be said that Barton Warren Stone took an early lead, but was later passed by Alexander Campbell.” Sam Stone contended that Barton Stone was deserving of greater appreciation . . . and he did so by presenting this “survey of his life.” . . .

ICOM Announces Speakers (Plus News Briefs)

The lineup of speakers has been set for this fall’s International Conference On Missions, which will take place Nov. 14-16 in Lexington, Ky. The theme this year is “Entrusted.” . . . Plus briefs from Ozark Christian College, Exponential, and the Northwest Christian Convention.
