On Sunday, the first two students at MACU Rwanda graduated. The program allows students in Rwanda to receive an Associate of Arts through a partnership with Rwanda Challenge, Africa Hope Initiatives, and Mid-Atlantic Christian University. Currently, there are 39 students in the program. “The potential positive impact on the churches in Rwanda and the surrounding countries is excellent,” according to a MACU Facebook post. We wrote an article about the partnership last February.

In the most recent issue of Johnson Magazine, three key figures in Johnson University administration through the years offered their insights on JU’s efforts in Florida over the past decade-plus. Florida Christian College was in danger of failing in late 2012/early 2013 when efforts began that ultimately led to FCC becoming Johnson University Florida. Unfortunately, this past summer, Johnson announced it will be closing JUFL after this academic year. Former Johnson University presidents David Eubanks and Gary Weedman, along with JUFL Executive Vice President Marvin Elliott shared their insights.

Erik Tryggestad, president and CEO of The Christian Chronicle, which serves our friends in the noninstrumental Churches of Christ, shared about his positive experience at the International Conference On Missions in Oklahoma City in November. He wrote, in part . . . 

“The conference is associated with the independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ, our instrumental cousins in the Restoration Movement. But a growing number of us from the a cappella Churches of Christ are attending the annual event, recognizing that we don’t have to agree on everything to share ideas and resources for reaching the lost.”

Manhattan (Kan.) Christian College will host the 47th annual Woman’s World Conference Feb. 23-24. The event is an opportunity to grow, learn, and encourage one another. Ellie Lofaro will be keynote speaker. “Devoted” will be the theme. The event will take place at the Kansas State University Student Union (in Manhattan); about 600 women typically attend. Registration is $100. Three keynote sessions, two buffet meals, and 15 seminars are planned. Learn more and register here.

Hope International University President Paul Alexander is marking 30 years of servant leadership at HIU, according the school’s Facebook page. After holding a number of key roles at HIU, Alexander became the school’s seventh president in 2019, as well as the first HIU alumnus to hold that office.

The first episode, titled “Christmas and New Testament Interpretation,” featured Dr. Scott Caulley exploring the implications of the birth narratives in Matthew and Luke for New Testament theology. The Observer wrote a newsfeature last week on Enterprise (Ore.) Christian Church transitioning to a new lead pastor. Darin Frey is stepping into the role being vacated by David Bruce, 70, who has served with the church for almost 22 years. Bruce began his ministry career in 1971.

Harding University celebrated its NCAA DII National Football Championship on Tuesday with an event at the Huckeba Field House in Searcy, Ark. In mid-December, the Bisons defeated the Orediggers from the Colorado School of Mines, 38-7. The Bisons ended the season with a 15-0 record; it was their first national championship in program history.
