YouTube Presenter Profiles Independent Christian Churches

by | 26 January, 2024 | 0 comments

Ready to Harvest, which maintains a website and conducts denominational research, has released a video profiling and explaining Independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ via its YouTube channel. The 27-minute video titled “What Are Independent Christian Churches?” was posted early this week and is being generally well received.

The presenter, named Joshua, scoured a wide range of Christian Church websites, including individual churches, colleges, parachurch ministries, and magazines (including Christian Standard) to excerpt content and provide descriptions of generally held beliefs with regard to doctrines, sacraments or ordinances, Scripture, creation and evolution, sin and salvation, marriage and sexuality, worship style, church government, and women in ministry, among others.

Among those quoted most often are respected Christian Church theologian Jack Cottrell (who died in 2022) and a variety of writers for Christian Standard, including the most recent version of our special publication, “What Kind of Church Is This?”

People familiar with our fellowship of churches will recognize lots of names and organizations mentioned in the video. As of Friday, the video had been viewed 18,000 times during its first five days.

One viewer commented: “As a Restoration Movement minister, I thank you for a fairly in-depth and accurate representation of our churches.”

“The Opening Year”: A Christian Standard Editorial from 1875

In his editorial for the start of 1875, Christian Standard’s founding editor, Isaac Errett, offered 5 suggestions to his readers that will enable them to “consecrate” themselves anew to Christ’s service in the forthcoming year. Though Errett’s suggestions are nearly 150 years old (originally published on January 2, 1875), we believe his comments are just as valuable today as they were when they were first published.
