First Church of Christ Philipsburg is seeking a full-time Lead Pastor / Pastoral Elder to serve within its elder-led congregation in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. The church exists to glorify God and help people fall in love with Jesus through worship, service, fellowship, discipleship, and evangelism. Its Sunday morning service averages approximately 50 attendees and combines traditional hymns with contemporary worship, communion, and biblical preaching.
The Lead Pastor will serve as a member of the Elder team, sharing responsibility for spiritual oversight, governance, and the shepherding of the congregation. This role calls for a spiritually mature and biblically grounded leader who can preach God’s Word faithfully, provide compassionate pastoral care, promote evangelism and discipleship, and work collaboratively within an elder-led structure.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Preaching Sunday morning sermons and helping plan the annual sermon calendar.
- Providing biblical teaching, spiritual guidance, counseling, prayer, and encouragement.
- Visiting members who are sick, hospitalized, homebound, or experiencing spiritual needs.
- Presiding over baptisms, weddings, funerals, and the Lord’s Supper as needed.
- Leading the church’s evangelism efforts and sharing the gospel in the wider community.
- Serving as a Pastoral Elder with responsibilities equal to those of the other Elders.
- Attending twice-monthly Elder meetings and monthly church board meetings.
- Providing regular written reports and serving as an ex-officio member of the church board.
Expectations and qualifications include:
- A strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Spiritual maturity, integrity, and alignment with the church’s beliefs and values.
- Demonstrated pastoral ministry or church leadership experience.
- Excellent preaching, communication, leadership, counseling, and interpersonal skills.
- Organizational competence and proficiency with technology and digital tools.
- A bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, or a related field is preferred.
