Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing, Michigan, is seeking a full-time Senior Accountant to lead the financial operations of the institution and help steward the resources entrusted to the college by students, donors, and the broader community. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role in a small, private, faith-based college where financial integrity, disciplined accounting, and mission alignment are closely connected.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and reconciliations.
- Maintaining accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Preparing financial statements, management reports, and dashboards for the President, leadership team, and Board.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, long-range financial planning, audits, Form 990 preparation, regulatory reporting, and compliance.
- Managing cash flow, banking relationships, investment custodian relationships, endowment accounting, and restricted fund tracking.
- Supervising and developing a small business office team while collaborating with Enrollment, Financial Aid, Advancement, Academics, and Student Life.
Expectations and qualifications include:
- A bachelorโs degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience with a strong foundation in GAAP.
- Strong technical accounting skills and the ability to lead financial close, audit, and reporting processes.
- Excellent communication skills, especially the ability to explain financial information to non-financial audiences.
- High integrity, discretion, sound judgment, and genuine alignment with the collegeโs Christian faith, mission, and values.
Preferred qualifications include CPA or CMA certification, nonprofit or higher education accounting experience, fund accounting knowledge, audit leadership experience, and familiarity with Title IV accounting, FASB ASC 958, Form 990 preparation, Sage Accounting, Populi, or Ramp ERP. Compensation is listed at $55,000โ$65,000, with additional benefits described in the official posting.
