Horizons (Freed-Hardeman University) โ Organization Profile
Horizons is a week-long Christian leadership and discipleship camp hosted by Freed-Hardeman University (FHU). Designed for students who have completed grades 7โ12, Horizons brings teens together for Bible-centered teaching, leadership development, and spiritual growth in a structured campus environment that blends learning, worship, and community.
Hosted on the Freed-Hardeman University campus in Henderson, Tennessee, Horizons serves youth groups and individual campers who travel from across the United States to spend an immersive week focused on following Jesus and strengthening their faith. FHU frames the broader purpose of its summer camps as creating an environment where young people can experience Christian community and grow as leaders, and Horizons fits that mission by targeting teens in key formative years.
The heart of Horizons is daily instruction and shared worship. The program includes Bible classes that focus on Christian leadership, service, spiritual growth, and age-relevant issues. In addition to classroom teaching, Horizons builds in opportunities for community service, helping teens connect discipleship with practical action and compassion. Campers also participate in planned social events that reinforce friendships and encourage healthy Christian community.
Horizons is designed to be a safe, well-organized experience for large numbers of students. Campers stay in FHU residence halls with counselor supervision and clear expectations for behavior and safety. The program provides detailed guidance for families and youth leaders on practical matters like housing, dress expectations, and visitation policies, aiming to create a consistent environment where teens can focus on learning and spiritual renewal without distraction.
Because many teens attend with church groups, Horizons emphasizes shared responsibility and preparation. Youth ministers and sponsors are expected to guide their groups, communicate expectations, and help students prepare for the week. At the same time, Horizons is also designed for individual campers who want to participate in a structured Christian camp experience and build friendships with peers from other congregations.
Churches and families can engage with Horizons by registering campers, encouraging youth group participation, and using FHUโs camp information pages to plan effectively. Supporters who value youth discipleship and leadership development can also partner with Freed-Hardeman University through giving, which helps make campus events and camps possible.
