Lads to Leaders (L2L) โ Organization Profile
Lads to Leaders (L2L), also known as Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes, is a long-running leadership development program used by churches of Christ to help young people grow into servant-minded Christian leaders. Founded in 1968, L2L exists to develop youth into Christian leaders through Bible-centered learning, training, and opportunities to practice ministry skills in age-appropriate ways.
L2L is based in Montgomery, Alabama, and serves churches across the United States and internationally through a national support structure and multiple regional convention locations. The program is designed to be adaptable at the congregational level, giving local churches a framework they can use year-round to help children, teens, and adults build confidence in Scripture, worship leadership, and service.
Rather than operating as a single weekend event, L2L emphasizes year-round leadership training tools that congregations can shape to their context. Churches use L2L materials and event pathways to help participants grow in Bible knowledge and Christian character while also practicing skills that benefit congregational lifeโsuch as public reading, speaking, leading songs, teaching, and other forms of participation. L2L describes its approach as providing Bible-based class materials and events for preschoolers through adults, giving families and church groups shared goals and a consistent discipleship rhythm.
L2L also includes structured learning and participation areas that many churches recognize. Examples of these pathways include Bible knowledge and study components (such as Bible Bowl and Pearls) as well as participation options that encourage practice and preparation across the year. L2L provides training materials for judges and volunteers, along with documentation and guidance that helps churches coordinate participation responsibly.
Engagement with L2L typically starts through a local church leader or group leader, since registration and participation are organized at the group level. Churches can request introductory materials, schedule an introductory meeting with an L2L representative, and build a plan for implementing L2L within their congregation. Supporters can also partner with L2L financially through its donation pathways, helping sustain resources, staffing, and the programโs broader service to churches.
