Missions of Hope International

Missions of Hope International serves disadvantaged African communities through Christian education, economic empowerment, health initiatives, church planting, child sponsorship, and holistic ministry.

Missions of Hope International โ€” Organization Profile

Missions of Hope International, also known as MOHI, is a Christian holistic ministry serving children and families in disadvantaged communities throughout Africa. The organization began in Mathare Valley in Nairobi, Kenya, and now works across urban slums, informal settlements, and remote rural villages through education, economic empowerment, health initiatives, church planting, and gospel-centered community development.

The organizationโ€™s core focus is transforming lives through the hope of Jesus Christ by educating children, empowering families, restoring health, and redeeming lives through the gospel. MOHI describes its work as a holistic approach to addressing poverty, offering physical, emotional, social, and spiritual support so vulnerable children and families can move out of generational poverty and experience lasting hope in Christ.

Missions of Hope International serves Kenya, Liberia, and Ethiopia, with work in more than 35 communities and more than 35 schools. In Kenya, its listed communities include places in Nairobi County, Kilifi County, Kisumu County, Marsabit County, Machakos County, Nyeri County, Nakuru County, and Turkana County. The organization states that some communities may not be listed publicly for privacy and security reasons.

The ministry operates through integrated programs summarized as Educate, Empower, Restore, and Redeem. Its schools provide quality Christian education for children from nursery through high school. Its empowerment programs include business and skills training, microloans, and support for parents and community members with limited formal education. Its restoration work includes physical, mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual health initiatives, while its church planting and local church partnerships help share the gospel and nurture faith communities.

A distinctive part of MOHIโ€™s work is a locally led, Kenyan-founded ministry model that combines education, holistic support, and the power of the local church. The organization states that it is founded and led by Kenyans and supported by more than 1,500 local staff. Its model is designed to provide a โ€œhand upโ€ rather than only a handout, with transformation beginning with a child in school and spreading to families, neighbors, and whole communities.

People can engage with Missions of Hope International by sponsoring a child, giving to critical needs, supporting projects, taking mission or vision trips, becoming a church or organizational partner, using sponsor and partner resources, downloading the MOHI mobile app, or following ministry updates. Supporters can give online or by mail, pray for the ministry, and partner with MOHI as it works to educate children, empower parents, restore health, and share the gospel in disadvantaged communities.
