Despite being the first metropolitan region of Ukraine to fall to Russian forces after the invasion, residents continue to protest the occupation. Meanwhile, a church in Uman has worked tirelessly to feed and support their fellow Ukrainians.
"Surviving is just one side of the story [in Ukraine],” says Natasha Reimer from Mulberry International. “The other side is saying goodbye to loved ones.” . . .
In the midst of war, Ukrainians are reaching out to help one another survive. Ukrainians who initially evacuated certain areas have since been attempting to return to areas of intense fighting to bring food and supplies to people trapped there. . . .
Kharkiv has been the target of some of Russia’s fiercest attacks this week. The second-largest city in Ukraine, located about 30 miles from the Russian border, has a population of 1.4 million. Amid destruction, stories of hope have emerged. . . .

By Brad Pontius In an effort to help displaced victims of violence by the Islamic State (IS) in the Middle East, Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington, Indiana, discovered a different way to assist thousands of Iraqi Christians who have been forced from their homes. An initial effort to host refugees in Hoosierland was transformed into a campaign to provide necessary, life-giving tools to 125,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs), Christians who lived in the Ninevah Plains near Kurdistan, Northern Iraq. I remember thinking he looked a bit out of place as he helped set the tables for an evangelism outreach dinner. Was it because I thought he was too old””or too good? I had heard bits of his unbelievable story. He wasn”t a big man, but there was something about the way he carried himself, the way his eyes sparkled when he spoke, that gave him stature. By LeRoy Lawson In 2007 I made my first journey to post-monarchy, post-Russian occupation, post-mujahadeen civil war, post-Taliban atrocities, post-American-occupied Afghanistan. I haven”t fully recovered yet. It reminded me of an earlier visit to civil-war-torn Eastern Congo. My traveling group was told then that seven identifiable groups in Congo were shooting at each other. Whether they were hitting their ostensible targets was questionable; what was beyond question was their devastating success in wiping out any effective government, any viable economy, any visible hope for the people. I usually return from a developing country discouraged; from Congo I came away angry.
