Shelley L. Jacobs began serving as full-time archivist with the Disciples of Christ Historical Society, Bethany, WV, on July 25. DCHS is the repository for church files, personal papers, records, books and journals, artifacts, and memorabilia related to the three streams of the Stone-Campbell Movement. Jacobs”s primary responsibility is to organize that material so it is available for research to congregations, institutions, and individuals.
Jacobs is a native of Saskatchewan, Canada, and a lifelong member of the churches of Christ. She received her BTh from Western Christian College (WCC) in Saskatchewan, and majored in church history focusing on Restoration studies in the MA program at Harding School of Theology in Memphis, TN. She has served as library director and instructor at WCC, and worked on archives collections and organization until the school closed in 2012. She then managed, packed, and itemized WCC”s collection so it could be turned over to the Saskatchewan Provincial Archives.
DCHS has nearly completed work on its new building near the Campbell Mansion and Study in historic Bethany. The dedication and celebration of its new home is slated for Sept. 10. The DCHS website is www.discipleshistory.org.
