Richard Westerlund, director of athletics and head men’s basketball coach at Great Lakes Christian University (Lansing, Mich.) since 2018, resigned recently to become the head coach at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima. Several days later, GLCC’s head women’s soccer coach Sam Sibilski was hired as the new director of athletics, replacing Westerlund.

Westerlund enjoyed great success at GLCC, as has Sibilski. As a coach, Westerlund’s teams won 101 games in five years and advanced to the national tournament four times. In 2020, he hired Sibilski, whose soccer squad won a national championship in 2021.

GLCC posted articles about Westerlund’s departure and Sibilski’s hiring as new director of athletics.

“The Opening Year”: A Christian Standard Editorial from 1875
