ICOM Announces Speakers (Plus News Briefs)

The lineup of speakers has been set for this fall’s International Conference On Missions, which will take place Nov. 14-16 in Lexington, Ky. The theme this year is “Entrusted.” 

The theme for the Thursday evening gathering will be “Entrusted to Preach”; featured speakers will be Dr. Yassir Eric and Niranjan Adhikary

On Friday morning, “Entrusted to Pray” will be the theme and will feature Fabiana Ferrarini, Hannah Alarcon, and Jessie Franey. Friday evening’s focus will be “Entrusted to Go” and will feature ICOM President Andrew Jit and Mike Schrage

Saturday morning’s “Entrusted to Worship” focus will be developed by David Stine and Tyler McKenzie. The closing worship service on Saturday night will feature the theme “Entrusted to Send”; speakers will include Cam Huxford, Dr. Orpheus Heyward, and Greg Marksberry

The 172nd Northwest Christian Convention is set for June 25 to 30 in Turner, Ore. The gathering seeks to promote unity among Christians in the Northwest, encourage and equip churches in the Northwest, and promote and support missions around the world. “Good for the World” is this year’s theme. Exponential will have two national conferences this fall. Sam Stone wrote in 1962, “If the early leaders of the Restoration movement are like men engaged in a race, it might be said that Barton Warren Stone took an early lead, but was later passed by Alexander Campbell.” Sam Stone contended that Barton Stone was deserving of greater appreciation . . . and he did so by presenting this “survey of his life.” . . .

Silas McCormick, president of Lincoln Christian University, shares about the many considerations that went into the decision to close LCU at the end of this academic year. “Everyone loves a ‘turnaround’ story,” McCormick writes. “Very few go looking for a ‘finishing well’ story.” . . .
