Key Communications โ Organization Profile
Key Communications is a Christian media and outreach ministry connected with Portland, Oregon. The organization focuses on proclaiming Christ to Urdu-speaking people, especially those whose roots are in the Islamic tradition. Its public theme is โProclaiming a Message of Hope to a Dark World,โ and its ministry has grown from gospel radio programs first produced in Pakistan in the Urdu language in 1971.
The organizationโs core focus is providing Urdu-language gospel broadcasting, Christian literature, seeker resources, and follow-up for people considering Christ. Key Communications states that it exists to provide people, particularly those from a Muslim background, with enough information to make an intelligent decision about accepting Christ, to help those who accept Christ form congregations, and to equip congregations to replicate themselves.
Key Communications serves Urdu-speaking audiences globally, with historic and continuing emphasis on Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India. The ministry broadcasts into South Asia by radio and reaches listeners worldwide through internet streaming and online resources. Its materials describe daily medium-wave programs, streaming listeners from more than 130 countries, and outreach to people in places the ministry cannot personally visit.
The organization operates through several connected media and discipleship tools. It produces audio programming and literature in Urdu, broadcasts into South Asia by radio, broadcasts online, maintains the Urdu/English seeker website Awaz-e-Haq, replies personally to listener contacts, sends Christian literature, speaks and trains indigenous churches, and educates followers of Christ about interacting with Muslims. Its media page also notes broadcasts into Pakistan through Trans World Radio and resources for listeners in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.
A distinctive part of Key Communicationsโ work is combining gospel broadcasting with personal follow-up, printed and digital Urdu resources, church training, and local outreach. Its history began with Lee Turnerโs missionary work in Pakistan, where he recorded teaching for people who could not read and later prepared radio programs for the Far East Broadcasting Association. After returning to the United States in 1976, Lee founded Key Communications to continue the Urdu gospel work that began in Pakistan.
People can engage with Key Communications by praying, giving, using or sharing the Awaz-e-Haq resources, contacting the ministry, inviting conversation about Urdu outreach, or supporting the production of radio programs and literature. Donations help cover program production, literature, airtime, website resources, travel, and communication with listeners and inquirers. The ministryโs public updates also invite supporters to follow news about broadcasting, publishing, outreach in Pakistan, and training opportunities connected with the International Conference on Missions.
