Life In Abundance — Organization Profile
Life In Abundance, also known as LIA or Life In Abundance International, is an African-founded, African-led, faith-based community development organization with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and a U.S. support office in Louisville, Kentucky. The organization works to defeat poverty and restore dignity by empowering local churches to serve poor and vulnerable people in their own communities.
The organization’s core focus is mobilizing local churches to restore health, renew hope, and inspire lasting transformation for vulnerable children, families, and communities. LIA’s work is rooted in wholistic sustainable development, addressing spiritual, physical, social, economic, educational, and health needs through community ownership and local church leadership.
Life In Abundance serves in 14 countries throughout Africa and the Caribbean, including Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, DR Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Jamaica, and Haiti. Its work is carried out through partnerships with local churches and civic leaders, and the organization states that it serves people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.
The organization operates through a transformational development model that begins with established local churches. LIA trains and equips local pastors and leaders, helps communities identify their most significant needs, and supports locally owned solutions. Its program areas include economic empowerment, social engagement, education, and community health. Examples include micro-enterprise training, micro-loans, community savings groups, agricultural development, orphan and vulnerable children care, early childhood development, primary health care, health education, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, and famine relief.
A distinctive part of Life In Abundance’s approach is building sustainable transformation through the local church rather than creating outside dependency. Its five-stage development process is described as Enter, Empower, Establish, Expand, and Entrust. After a period of training, support, and program development, LIA seeks to entrust ongoing ownership to the local church and community leaders so transformation can continue after the organization phases out.
People can engage with Life In Abundance by giving, becoming a prayer partner, partnering through a church, participating in short-term church teams or vision trips, attending Global Institute events, using LIA resources, or following ministry updates. Supporters can also give one-time or recurring gifts, receive prayer updates, read annual reports, and connect with the organization’s U.S., U.K., or Kenya offices.
