Salty Church Rescue Station a ‘Symbol of Hope’ (Plus News Briefs)

by | 19 September, 2018 | 0 comments

Salty Church in Ormond Beach, Fla., has opened a “rescue station” in the historic Ormond Beach firehouse that is a place where people in the community can receive a helping hand.

“Ultimately, this place is a symbol of hope and help for the city,” said lead pastor Robbie O’Brien during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the rescue station, the Ormond Beach Observer reported.

The church is hoping the rescue station will help prevent people from becoming homeless, entering the foster system, or landing in jail. The ministry helps people connect with governmental services and local ministries.

The church renovated an old fire station, built in 1937. It even incorporated the old fire pole within the station into the design of the rescue center.

NEWS BRIEFS

Volunteers from Northeast Christian Church in Louisville, Ky., created a mobile reading trailer with books, crafts, and games to encourage summer reading. They sought input from teachers about which neighborhoods could benefit from the ministry. A goal is to prevent students from falling behind in class over the summer months.

Church members took the mobile reading program—part of the church’s “Love The Ville” initiative—out into the community to give away books and play games with children.

“There’s something about being able to touch a young person’s life and being able to say you can do this, you’re amazing, you’re awesome,” volunteer Sara Hayden told local news station WHAS.
