Several Churches Host 'Night to Shine' Proms

Several Restoration Movement churches held “Night to Shine” proms for people with special needs this past weekend. The proms are sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. More than 700 events were held this year. Here are some of the ones we heard about.

In California, Real Life Church in Valencia partnered with the Tim Tebow Foundation for the first time this year—although this was the fifth consecutive year the church has held a prom for people with special needs.

“When they walk off the bus, and their eyes light up and their parents burst into tears, that’s coming close to how much Jesus has shown his love to us,” Real Life pastor Rusty George told ABC 7.

The Enid News & Eagle wrote a feature article about one participant who danced for the first time at age 70 at a “Night to Shine” event three years ago. This year, she attended the event at Oakwood Christian Church in Enid, Okla.

In Illinois, the News-Gazette wrote about the “Night to Shine” prom at First Christian Church in Champaign. The church was expecting about 160 prom guests and 500 volunteers to help organize the event.

Crossroads Christian Church in Gray, Tenn., also hosted an event. Children’s minister Heather Logan told WJHL the number of guests has more than tripled since CCC first hosted a “Night to Shine” in 2017.

Guests braved ice and snow to attend “Night to Shine” at the spacious Manchester (N.H.) Christian Church, which served as host site for Orchard Christian Fellowship, which organized the local event, manchesterinklink.com reported.

And the Times Herald reported “well over 180 special kings and queens [enjoyed] a prom-like experience complete with dinner, dancing and crowns” at an event organized by Antioch Christian Church in Washington, Ind.

After this article posted, we received word that New Hope Christian Church in Crawfordsville, Ind., also hosted “Night to Shine.” Senior minister Darrell Portwood wrote, “It was our second year doing it. It is an amazing event! We had 111 special guests and 334 volunteers.”
