Room For Doubt is offering a free “Apologetics Boot Camp” in June and July to teachers in Christian high schools, homeschools, public schools, churches, and camps.
“Our culture is changing fast and Christian youth are asking tough questions about their faith,” according to the website for R4D, which started in 2013. “Unfortunately, many teachers simply don’t have adequate preparation to teach or incorporate apologetics in their work or ministry. The free Boot Camp provides expert training you can use.”
Dr. Zach Breitenbach, associate director of Room For Doubt and an adjunct professor at Lincoln Christian University, will lead the instruction. Registration is open until May 31.

Encounter Christian Church, which meets on the campus of Johnson University Florida in Kissimmee, had its grand opening April 11. Services take place in JUF’s gymnasium. The intercultural and interlingual church has been in the planning stages for about two years. COVID-19 delayed the launch for several months.
The church’s pastor, Gonzalo Venegas, is a one-time gang member we featured in an article in the March 2019 issue. Venegas embarked on planting a church in Florida after leaving his former home in Michigan. His call was to plant a multicultural church capable of sharing the gospel and building community among people of every background and heritage, he told us for an article later that year.

First Christian Church of Sylvania, Ga., is selling the building it has called home for 58 years and moving about 1.5 miles north where it is constructing a 14,000-square-foot facility. A dedication service was conducted March 28.
Once the longtime building’s sale is completed, services will either be held outside the new property (at the corner of Frontage Road and North Main Street) or inside Screven County High School’s auditorium, as dictated by the weather, the Augusta Chronicle reported.
“While there are many challenges to navigate without a specific place to worship, FCC is excited about the current and future ministry to the community,” senior pastor Jay Akin told the newspaper.

The May 24-26 event will feature Bible studies led by Johnson president Tommy Smith, a sermon by professor Daniel Overdorf, an appearance by Clyde Dorkman (comic alter ego of professor David Wheeler), online games, evening entertainment, and some surprises. Mulberry International Resources, a ministry that partners with churches and volunteers to bring hope and healing to at-risk children and families in Ukraine and beyond, reports the war between Ukraine and Russia has entered its seventh year and that, in the past month, Russian military activity and Ukrainian deaths have increased. Overall, according to the United Nations, there have been 1.7 million people displaced, more than 10,000 people killed, and over 25,000 wounded.
“Mulberry has been reaching out to internally displaced and at-risk families in war-torn Eastern Ukraine for six years and helping at-risk children and orphans in Russian occupied Crimea for two decades,” says Natasha Reimer, Mulberry’s executive director. Ja’Quin Jones, who scored 1,400 points during the two-time All-American’s playing career with Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing, Mich., signed to play professional basketball with Flint United in late March. In Flint’s most recent game, Jones scored 6 points against the Detroit Hustle. In 2020, Jones earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and theology from GLCC, which he has been serving as athletic recruiting manager and assistant gameday manager.
