Point University graduate and trustee Marvin Bussey is featured on a new mural in East Point, Ga., that pays tribute to “Atlanta’s Finest” . . . 10 people who have gone above and beyond to make the community a better place. Bussey, who founded Teens at Work in 1991 and continues to serve as executive director, is featured on the mural with such folks as longtime U.S. Rep. John Lewis, Tyler Perry, and Bernice King.

Chris DeWelt, director of intercultural studies with Ozark Christian College, answered questions for Renew.org about how Christians should feel about and respond to the situation in Afghanistan.
“The people of Afghanistan are wonderful and incredibly hospitable,” said DeWelt, who has been to that nation three times. “Christians from the U.S. who go and work there fall in love with the people. Yet, at the same time, it’s a tribal and often violent society. . . . The country has long been reeling from decades and centuries of brutal civil wars. . . .”

Mountain Mission School in Grundy, Va., has revised its plans (due to COVID-19) and now hopes to celebrate its centennial anniversary on its 101st birthday, next April 21-24. A few weeks ago, MMS posted on Facebook, “We’ll start planning it, and just pray for wisdom and no COVID.”

IDES (International Disaster Emergency Service) is planning an “Emergency GAP Meal Pack” to help with Haiti earthquake recovery for Thursday through Saturday at its Noblesville, Ind., headquarters. The Paragon (Ind.) Homecoming Festival, started by Paragon Christian Church, is planning its 97th event Sept. 3-5. Activities will include a royalty contest, a battle of the bands, and carnival games.
“It started in the church lot as a . . . dinner, and it has expanded into a festival,” committee president Heather McFarland told the Reporter Times. The festival is based around the church but the celebration spans the entire town.
