News Briefs for October 19

Registration continues for both the International Conference On Missions (Nov. 3-5) and the Student ICOM (Nov. 4-5). The combined 2022 gathering takes place in Columbus, Ohio. 

The theme for ICOM is “Perfect Unity.” Tony Twist, president and CEO of TCM International Institute, is leading ICOM this year. Other speakers will include David Young, senior minister with North Boulevard Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Shondankeh Johnson, leader of Disciple Making Movements. 

SICOM’s theme will be “Thy Kingdom Come,” and will center on the Lord’s Prayer. Register here for ICOM or SICOM.

Among the ticketed events this year is “Women of Purpose” at 2 p.m. Nov. 5. Final day to order tickets is Oct. 23. Speakers will include Donna Linn, Laura Diebel, Stacey Vines, and Tina Wilson. Click here to learn more about this and other ticketed events.

In response to the dwindling preaching pipeline, e2: effective elders has published The Preaching Elder, a resource that will guide elders as they prepare sermons to help shoulder the burden of leading the church. The Preaching Elder Initiative comprises four parts: a book, seven hours of instructional videos, an in-person preaching clinic, and an academic course of study. The package is available for purchase at e2elders.org.

On Nov. 13, Redemption Christian Church will officially open its Tell City (Ind.) Campus on the site of the former Tell City Junior High School building, which RCC purchased last year. Services will take place at 9 and 10:30 a.m. (CST), with onsite worship and Communion, and a sermon originating from the Jasper, Ind., campus. Corey Andry serves as Tell City’s campus minister. Redemption started with 12 people in Jasper in 2000. In 2016, the church opened its campus in Loogootee, Ind. The Dubois County Free Press reported on RCC’s plans.

Ozark Christian College, Joplin, Mo., will host a “We Are the Body” women’s event on April 21-22. The study of 1 Corinthians will feature Maggie Schade as the speaker and Madison Christian as worship leader. The event is designed to encourage, equip, and empower women. The early bird rate through the end of December is $25. More information is available at occ.edu.

Manhattan (Kan.) Christian College will host its 46th Women’s World Conference Feb. 24-25. This year’s theme is “Unshakeable: Standing on His Promises.” Keynote speaker Mary Shannon will share that it doesn’t matter what happens politically, morally, socially, or economically in the world if we have Christ living in us. In “Something Is Strange About Halloween,” Russell responds to questions he is often asked: “Isn’t Halloween the devil’s holiday? Sam Stone wrote in 1962, “If the early leaders of the Restoration movement are like men engaged in a race, it might be said that Barton Warren Stone took an early lead, but was later passed by Alexander Campbell.” Sam Stone contended that Barton Stone was deserving of greater appreciation . . . and he did so by presenting this “survey of his life.” . . .

ICOM Announces Speakers (Plus News Briefs)

The lineup of speakers has been set for this fall’s International Conference On Missions, which will take place Nov. 14-16 in Lexington, Ky. The theme this year is “Entrusted.” . . . Plus briefs from Ozark Christian College, Exponential, and the Northwest Christian Convention.
