Ohio Church Loses Section of Roof in Tornado

by | 6 March, 2023 | 0 comments

A severe storm early Friday night that included two tornadoes in Highland County, Ohio, tore a large section of the roof off Fairview Church of Christ, located on U.S. 50 a few miles west of Hillsboro.

No one was injured at the church or along the paths of the tornadoes, according to local media reports.

“I got a lot of phone calls . . . [from] people wanting to help,” minister Don Thomas told the Fairview church on Sunday morning. “I’ve told most of them, . . . let us find out what our responsibilities are . . . because we don’t know what it’s going to cost the church outside of what the insurance covers.”

In that same Facebook video, Thomas said he is thankful that two relatively new deacons at Fairview have stepped up to help oversee the process of working with the insurance adjuster, who is expected onsite today, and overseeing repairs.

The deacons shared Sunday that it is hoped that the hole in the roof can be temporarily covered today. The overall structure of the roof—aside from the large hole—appears to be sound, but repairs are expected to take several months. Interior damage appears to be minimal.

Several churches in the community have already offered Fairview church use of their buildings.

The Times-Gazette published a daytime photo of the damage, available via this link.
