NewThing Planted Nearly 1,000 New Churches in 2020

By Chris Moon Even in a pandemic, the work of church planting continues. Chicago-based church-planting organization NewThing reports it planted 982 churches in 2020, an increase from 855 in 2019. Most of those church plants occurred outside the United States—many of them in Africa and Asia. “COVID hasn’t slowed it down,” said Patrick O’Connell, global director for NewThing. NewThing is the church-planting mission of Community Christian Church in Naperville, Ill., which was founded by Dave Ferguson and Jon Ferguson. The organization has been around for about 15 years and has planted a total of 6,373 churches in 26 countries so

A Listing of Church-Planting Organizations

We have compiled a listing of Church Planting Organizations associated with Christian churches and churches of Christ. Note that organizations often partner on church plants. This list is not a comprehensive count of church plants from the past five years but is meant to demonstrate who is actively planting churches and where. We will update this list at a future time. If your organization should be listed, please provide us

What Is a Resident Pastor?

By Matt Gugel “Hello, my name is Matt and I”m a resident pastor.” Maybe you read “resident pastor” and think, What in the world is a “resident pastor?“ Good question! I actually live under the stage in the worship center! Obviously””at least, I hope it was obvious””that is not where I live. To help clarify what I mean by resident pastor, think of a person who wants to be a doctor. He spends his time going to school and finally comes to a place where he starts to put what he”s learned into practice. After graduation, that person must become

A New Church for Happy”s Inn

By Phil Alspaw “This is just a fun ministry.” I say those words to my wife nearly every Saturday evening as we pull around a rural fire department”s parking lot and start driving 35 miles home after worshipping with Chain of Lakes Christian Church, started by Libby Christian Church last year on Easter weekend. We usually drive on a logging road maintained only a few months of the year; it”s bumpy, narrow, and beautiful. A long section of the road stretches along a gorgeous river that supports a vast wilderness teeming with deer, elk, moose, mountain lions, wolves, bears, and

Consider 9/11 Offering for Church Planting

There”s still time to participate in the Orchard Group“s “Love Prevails” offering on Sept. 11. That Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., churches will participate in a special giving campaign to fund new church plants in NYC and around the country. Some churches will take a special offering, others will give 9.11% of their regular offering that day, and others have committed to making a special gift before the end of 2011. “From New York, the greatest city in the world, we want to plant more churches in more cities,” writes Orchard

Struggles in High Places

By Mark A. Taylor Like leaders you may know, Mark Zuckerberg is struggling. Zuckerberg, 23-year-old CEO of the phenomenally popular social networking Web site Facebook, is figuring out how to cope with his own success. His brainchild began as an idea he pursued as a college dropout. Now, a little more than three years later, the site is attracting at least 101 million visitors and the dollars of investors like Microsoft (the company spent $240 million for a stake in Facebook last year). Although Facebook”s revenues reportedly reached $150 million in 2007, the company still isn”t profitable. And Zuckerberg”s efforts
