Kentucky Christian Hires Two New Vice Presidents (Plus News Briefs)

Compiled by Jim Nieman and Chris Moon Kentucky Christian University recently hired two new administrators. Calvin Lindell was hired as vice president of academic affairs. Lindell, who had been serving as interim in that position since March, “did an outstanding job throughout the transition to remote instruction in the spring term and with several other projects,” KCU president Terry Allcorn said. Lindell’s transition to vice president was effective July 1. Lindell also serves as preacher with Salt Lick (Ky.) Christian Church. He previously served 31 years with Morehead State University. Northwest Christian University Changing Name to Honor Co-Founder

Northwest Christian University is changing its name to Bushnell University. James A. Bushnell co-founded the university and was the first chairman of its board of trustees, the university said on its website. The name change will help the school in Eugene, Ore., reach beyond the Northwest part of the country to students across the United States and internationally. The change will take effect this year, after students graduate in May. The university said its faith commitment remains unchanged. “Our mission, vision, and values are founded upon a faith in Jesus Christ. Our commitment to Christian higher education remains the same,”

James Clapsaddle Smith, 91, a Christian church preacher and general director of Christian Missionary Fellowship (now CMFI) for 20 years, died Oct. 23, 2019. He was born April 7, 1928, in Centerville, Kan., the son of Kathleen May Clapsaddle Smith and Dewey Bryan Smith. After his father died in an accident in 1934, he and his seven siblings grew up in a single-parent home. He attended Northwest Christian College (now Northwest Christian University) in Eugene, Ore., which is where he met Joyce Couch of Seattle. They married on July 1, 1949, then continued to complete

Joneses to Step Down from Leadership Roles at Stadia (Plus News Briefs)

However, both will remain with Stadia as special assistants to the president. Tom Jones has served as executive director of Stadia since its founding in 2003. Debbie Jones founded and serves as senior director of Stadia’s Bloom, which empowers women to maximize their role in starting churches. Churches Donate 3 Tons of Pennies to Camp (Plus News Briefs)

The Christian camp has collected a million pennies from 26 churches during the past two months to help generate funds to acquire an additional 2.7 acres of land. First Christian Church in Decatur Marks 185 Years (Plus News Briefs)

Churches Rescue City’s Hoops Program (Plus News Briefs)

Compiled by Chris Moon Calvary Christian Church in Winchester, Ky., is ramping up for the little league basketball season one year after the church helped rescue the sports program after the closure of the community’s YMCA. Calvary Christian is one of several churches sponsoring Upward 40391, a Christian-based basketball and cheerleading program. The program came into existence after the Winchester YMCA closed in late 2016. “We were breaking down barriers and coming together for the cause of the kids,” CCC’s lead pastor Mike McCormick told the Winchester Sun.
