Walls’ Lifelong Service Honored (Plus News Briefs)

A December blog post by CMF International spotlighted Will and Ruth Walls for their years of service with the global mission organization. Will served as a campus minister at Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., from 1972 to 1995, then he and Ruth served as CMF missionaries in England (pastoral care, team training, and development with the church-planting team). Upon returning to the States in 2005, Will served in CMF’s office in Indianapolis. The church, along with a local food charity, gathered enough food to put two bags of groceries in 861 cars on Saturday. Milligan Starting Fly-Fishing Team (Plus News Briefs)

Compiled by Chris Moon and Jim Nieman Milligan College in Tennessee announced it is starting a fly-fishing team. The school (whose name officially changes to Milligan University on June 1) will begin offering fly-fishing scholarships to incoming students this fall. Thousands Meet in Brazil for World Convention

Almost 4,000 Christians from around the world met in Goiania, Brazil, for fellowship, worship, preaching, and learning at the 18th Global Gathering of the World Convention, July 25-28. A New World for Missions

Taylor “Missionaries are no longer Americans who come to show slides of “˜foreign” countries, but are those who bring the gospel from all over the world,” wrote Gary Holloway, executive director of World Convention, after attending the second Global Christian Forum in Manado, Indonesia October 3-7. His summary reminds us of new opportunities and strategy for missions today. Consider: South Korea sent out 22,000 missionaries to 176 countries last year. Nigeria plans to send 50,000 workers to other nations by 2015. Han Chinese plan to send out 100,000 missionaries to other countries in the next few years.

Holloway Named Executive Director of World Convention

By Staff Gary Holloway has been appointed executive director of World Convention, President B. J. Mpofu announced. Holloway succeeds Jeff Weston, who returned to Australia in 2009 after serving as executive director since 2004, and Bill McDonald, who has served on an interim basis for several months. What”s the Future for the World Convention?

By Mark A. Taylor Amid financial shortfalls and immigration problems, Nashville-based World Convention is anticipating staff cutbacks. As reported by Disciples World in a January 13 article by Ted Parks, World Convention executive director Jeff Weston will end his service with the convention later this year. Clinton Holloway, assistant to the director, concluded his six years of part-time service with the convention at the end of January. The World Convention, which first met in Washington, D.C., in 1930, is a one-of-a-kind ministry seeking to build connections among believers with a shared heritage in what is often called the Stone-Campbell Movement.
