Once upon a time, there was a worldwide pandemic. While the worldโ€™s leaders worked hard to keep people healthy, the government asked everyone to stay in their homes.

One woman was doing just that, while also watching the news and praying. During the first week at home, she heard a knock at the door. From a window, she saw who it was: Anxiety. She wasnโ€™t surprised to see him. He knocked often. She sighed, then opened the door.

โ€œHello, Iโ€™m here! Let me in, wonโ€™t you? This pandemic is crazy, right? We have so much to process together!โ€ Anxiety said.

โ€œWell, thatโ€™s true,โ€ the woman answered, and she led the way to the kitchen table where they immediately started talking.

Several hours later, she heard another knock at the door. She considered ignoring it because she had so much more to process with her current guest, and anyway, what if this new guest had the virus?

But the gentle knocking continued. So the woman got up from the kitchen table to answer the door. To her surprise, it was a face she hadnโ€™t seen in a while.

โ€œHello! Thanks so much for answering the door. Iโ€™ve knocked on several, but youโ€™re the first to open up.โ€

She squinted her eyes, studying him. โ€œOh! Opportunity, right?โ€

โ€œYes! Thatโ€™s me!โ€ he answered.

โ€œI donโ€™t think this is a good time for me. Come back later, when things calm down.โ€

He paused, then looked at her with sincerity and a bit of urgency. โ€œI know this may seem like strange timing,โ€ he said, โ€œbut I have so many wonderful things to talk with you about.โ€

She hesitated. โ€œWell . . . why donโ€™t you come in, Opportunity? For a little while? I have Anxiety here too, so we can all talk together.โ€

โ€œOh,โ€ he replied, โ€œNo . . . thank you, but that wonโ€™t work.โ€

โ€œWhy not?โ€ she asked.

โ€œAnxiety and I canโ€™t stay in the same place. It just doesnโ€™t work.โ€

โ€œBut he was here first,โ€ the woman replied.

โ€œTrue. . . .โ€ Opportunity thought for a moment. โ€œLet me ask you this: Is he helping you?โ€

โ€œHmm, well, yes, I mean . . . the future is unclear, and thereโ€™s so much to figure out. Heโ€™s helping me process it.โ€

โ€œHave you come to any conclusions?โ€

โ€œWell, not yet. But Iโ€™m sure if we just keep talking and listening to the news, weโ€™ll come up with some answers. Right?โ€

Opportunity sighed. He looked her straight in the eyes. โ€œI know it seems like you will, but you wonโ€™t.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t understand,โ€ she said. โ€œIโ€™ve been praying for answers, and heโ€™s here, and youโ€™re here too. So, how can that be?โ€

โ€œSometimes when youโ€™re putting a puzzle together, there are two pieces that look very similar,โ€ Opportunity said gently. โ€œThey both look like they will fit, but they wonโ€™t. So, you have to stop trying to force the look-alike into the spot. The look-alike leads to frustration . . .โ€

His voice trailed off, and the woman picked up, โ€œAnd the other one actually completes the picture?โ€

โ€œYes!โ€ he said, excitedly. โ€œSo please, thereโ€™s so much I have for you. So many blessings. I donโ€™t want you to miss out.โ€

โ€œMiss out on what? Iโ€™m just stuck in my house right now. Itโ€™s awful. Thereโ€™s nothing to do but wait.โ€

โ€œOh, but there are things to do. There are special moments with your family and neighbors that can happen only under these circumstances. There are extraordinary assignments youโ€™ve been given . . . opportunities God destined for you for this time! The Father is very creativeโ€”you should see all of the amazing plans he has for you!โ€

She stared at him with wide eyes, his excitement contagious. But almost immediately, a thought shaded her optimism, โ€œI donโ€™t think Anxiety is going to leave easily. Trust me, heโ€™s stubborn.โ€

โ€œOh I know! But once he realizes thereโ€™s no place for him here, heโ€™ll finally leave . . . at least for a while.โ€

A new look of determination crossed the womanโ€™s face. She turned to go back into her home. She knew it could be a daily, even hourly battle, keeping Anxiety out so she could host Opportunity. She realized Anxiety would come knocking on her door again. But she had a feeling this was the real piece to the puzzle she had been praying about.
