The Great Lakes Christian College board of trustees voted unanimously Friday to call Frank Weller as the institution’s 10th president. On June 1, Weller will succeed Larry Carter as GLCC’s president, a role the latter has served in since 1995.

FRANK WELLER

Weller—a 1989 graduate of GLCC (Lansing, Mich.)—announced his resignation as senior minister of South Lansing (Mich.) Christian Church on Sunday. He had served with SLCC for more than 14 years.

Weller’s love for and familiarity with Great Lakes Christian College were key factors in the decision to hire him, said William “Duke” Gray, chairman of GLCC’s board of trustees and leader of the search committee.

“[Weller] had a well-considered vision for the school and a viable way to achieve it,” Gray told Christian Standard. “His track record as a servant of the kingdom is excellent. He upheld the mission statement of the college.”

Gray said the board held “meaningful discussions” with 11 presidential prospects.

After earning a BRE in Bible theology and music at GLCC, Weller went on to earn an MA in Christian ministry from Huntington (Ind.) University in 1998, and a DMin in missional ministry from Bethel University (St. Paul, Minn.) in 2018. He previously served churches in Kokomo, Crawfordsville, and Butler, Ind. He also has served as adjunct professor at GLCC in the areas of homiletics and church leadership, along with serving as a member of the board of trustees.

Frank Weller and his wife, Tracy, are the parents of three adult children.

“We’ve counted it a joy and a privilege to be able to do life together with you and to share the gospel in South Lansing and around the world,” Weller shared with his church family on Sunday. “As president of Great Lakes Christian College, I’m going to be on the road a lot promoting the mission of the school. But on those occasional Sundays when Tracy and I are here in town, we plan to be right here with you, worshiping alongside you, writing a new chapter in our faith story. We’re incredibly grateful for the chapter we’ve written along with you these past 15 years.”

After Weller is installed on June 1, outgoing president Larry Carter will be available on a consulting basis for a period of time, Gray said.

“The college is excited about what God will do next with us and through us,” Gray said.

Big Little Churches

Why don’t they just close the doors and go to a bigger church that has more to offer them?’” . . .
