CMF International executive director Kip Lines recently provided an email update on the ministry’s efforts to serve war-ravaged Ukraine and its refugees. It read, in part:
“CMF has been actively involved in ministry in Ukraine since the 1990s and, as a result, we have deep relationships with people from Kyiv, L’viv, Berdyansk, Crimea, and other locations.
“(T)hese relationships have provided us the opportunity to be able to respond to the growing needs there through our network of local partners still serving in that country and through our missionary teams prepared to come alongside them. . . .
“Through our church partners in Ukraine, we are able to provide funds that will go directly to where needed most. Churches like Grace Church in Brovary, outside Kyiv, are able to use these funds to provide relief to those struggling to have their basic needs met, many of whom have been displaced from their homes. International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES) has already provided a generous donation that, along with your gifts, will support these ongoing efforts.
We are also able to continue serving Ukrainians through the efforts of June Johnson, a CMF missionary who has been working in Ukraine for many years. As a registered nurse and wound care specialist, June teaches, provides humanitarian aid and leadership at two church clinics and one Christian rehabilitation center for spinal injuries. . . .”

Earlier this month, Richard Westerlund, men’s head basketball coach with Great Lakes Christian College, was named National Coach of the Year by the National Christian College Athletic Association. His Crusader squad finished the year with a 26-7 record. The team was undefeated in conference play (16-0) and ranked No. 1 in NCCAA Division II before losing when the top eight teams gathered for national championship play in Joplin, Mo., March 10-12. GLCC finished fourth in the final tournament.
Additionally, Trent Temple and Isiah Reed were named to the NCCAA DII All-American team, with Temple named national player of the year. Temple earned his second All-American first-team honor. Reed was a second-team All-American; it was his fourth selection as All-American.
In the fall, GLCC’s Sam Sibilski was named national coach of the year for women’s soccer.

Sunnybrook Christian Church in Stillwater, Okla., has raised more than $30,000 in offerings for Ukraine refugees, and last week the church sent 11 volunteers to Poland, the News Press reported.
Pastor Jim Johnson said the volunteers will fill in wherever is needed, whether its caring for women and children or helping refugees find permanent housing. The contingent is volunteering with Proem Ministries, a Polish organization.

The 2022 Stone-Campbell Journal Conference will take place April 8-9 at Johnson University in Knoxville, Tenn. An online option for plenary and study group sessions also is being offered. The theme will be “Jesus in the Gospels: Parables, Female Disciples, and Children.” Attendees may register at the event. In-person attendees are encouraged to be vaccinated and masked. The Greeley Tribune wrote a feature article about StoryLine Christian Church, which is being planted in the Johnstown/Milliken, Colo., area, which has a growing residential population but not enough churches, according to church planter Jeff Poor.
Poor said his vision for Storyline is to be an “outward-facing church.”
