New Testament Church of Christ in Hagerstown, Indiana, is seeking a full-time Lead Pastor to help advance the church’s mission, “To Know Jesus & Make Him Known.” Working within a staff-led, elder-overseen ministry philosophy, this pastor will faithfully preach and teach Scripture, provide spiritual leadership to the staff and congregation, and shepherd the church through a season of healthy transition. Primary responsibilities include:
- Preparing and preaching biblical sermons
- Leading and supporting church staff and support staff
- Communicating clearly with the elders regarding congregational needs and personal well-being
- Training and encouraging other men to handle and preach God’s Word
- Working with the worship director to plan and develop services
- Planning and conducting monthly staff meetings for unity, communication, and alignment
- Equipping believers for works of service and participation in the mission of making Jesus known
- Providing counsel and encouragement to staff and the congregation
- Coordinating church events with staff and ministry leaders
- Conducting weddings, funerals, and related counseling
- Assisting with ministry oversight, leadership development, and pastoral visitation
- Fostering a culture of disciples making disciples
Expectations and qualifications include:
- A heart for God and the ability to know and apply Scripture
- Clear communication, teaching strength, encouragement, and visionary leadership
- At least five years of church ministry experience
- A college degree in ministry from a college or seminary affiliated with the Christian Church/Churches of Christ
- A team-oriented spirit and willingness to share preaching duties
- Full alignment with the church’s vision, mission, and values
- A life that models discipleship
In the first 12 months, the church hopes to see a healthy leadership transition alongside the current Lead Pastor, strong relationships built across the congregation and leadership, prayerful discernment for the church’s future direction, and participation in planning the 2027 preaching calendar.
