Show-Me Christian Youth Home — Organization Profile
Show-Me Christian Youth Home is a Christian residential child-care ministry that is compelled by Christ to rescue and restore young lives. Since 1967, Show-Me has provided safe, stable, loving homes and families for children and youth facing difficult circumstances in their current home environments. Its care is designed to help each child grow physically, academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
The ministry is based in La Monte, Missouri, with additional locations in Barnett, Galt, and Mayview, Missouri. Show-Me serves children and families in Missouri and surrounding communities, offering an alternative to state-based foster care for children who need a stable family setting. Boys, girls, and sibling groups may be considered for placement when the ministry determines it can provide a safe and appropriate environment.
Show-Me’s residential model is built around traditional family settings with trained houseparents and six to eight children living as siblings in each home. Children participate in daily family life, learn responsibility through household contributions, and benefit from consistent structure, spiritual guidance, healthy role models, and a Christ-centered neighborhood of support. The ministry also provides professional counseling to help children process trauma, overwhelming emotions, and life challenges.
Education and life preparation are important parts of Show-Me’s care. The ministry offers individualized education through its private Christian school and provides leadership and transition programs. Leadership U helps students develop service, knowledge, confidence, and wisdom through hands-on animal care, horsemanship, Scripture memory, apologetics, mentoring, and public-speaking opportunities. Path to Purpose helps older students prepare for adulthood through career exploration, job shadowing, life skills, money management, driver’s education, mentorship, and transition support.
Show-Me also works with parents, guardians, relatives, volunteers, churches, and donors. The ministry does not take legal custody of children; instead, it uses a temporary delegation of powers agreement with the parent or guardian so the child can receive care while healthy family relationships and reunification possibilities remain part of the process. Care is offered at no required cost to families because expenses are privately funded by donors.
