SonLight Power โ Organization Profile
SonLight Power is a Christian nonprofit solar energy ministry that equips people living in energy poverty with the love of Jesus and solar power for transformative, lasting impact. The ministry describes its work as โsolar energy for good,โ using renewable power as a practical way to serve vulnerable children, families, churches, schools, medical clinics, orphanages, community centers, and communities that lack reliable electricity.
The organization is based in Milford, Ohio, near Cincinnati, and serves communities in Latin America, Africa, the Caribbean, the United States, and other regions affected by energy poverty. SonLight Power states that it has equipped communities in 19 countries, completed more than 280 solar projects worldwide, and empowered an estimated 1 million lives through solar energy partnerships.
SonLight Power designs and builds solar energy systems for community venues such as schools, medical clinics, orphanages, community centers, churches, and water-pumping stations. These projects often bring electricity to places where reliable power has been unavailable or unaffordable. The ministry connects solar power with access to education, wellness, clean water, economic development, emergency preparedness, and renewed hope.
The ministryโs approach is designed to build local capacity rather than dependency. SonLight Power uses a blend of in-country and U.S.-based volunteers, experienced solar installers, engineers, mission partners, and community members. Its teams install systems while also training residents and partner organizations to understand, maintain, and care for the systems over time. This model reflects the ministryโs emphasis on sustainable energy solutions, practical training, and long-term community empowerment.
SonLight Power also multiplies its impact by equipping other mission organizations. Through project development, consulting, mission teams, Solar School, partnerships, and capacity-building efforts, the ministry helps churches, nonprofits, and mission agencies evaluate and implement solar solutions for their own work. Its experience includes more than 20 years of service and more than 260 designed projects, with many located in Latin America and Africa.
People can engage with SonLight Power by praying, giving, joining a mission trip, sponsoring a project, attending Solar School, volunteering, interning, subscribing to updates, or contacting the team about solar for a mission, church, school, or community project. Its distinct contribution is combining Christian witness, renewable energy expertise, mission partnerships, volunteer mobilization, and local training to help communities move from energy poverty toward sustainable power and hope.
