Suppose you knew a Web site where you could find a listing for every Christian church and church of Christ in the United States.
Suppose you could find not only the church’s address and phone number but a wealth of other information: names of staff members, link to the Web site, and statistics about baptisms and giving and attendance.
You would use this information to find a church when traveling. If you were doing research about congregations in our movement, you’d go here to gather the information you need. Just browsing through the listings would encourage you as you saw how churches were growing from one year to the next. You’d be pleased to read numbers of baptisms and giving totals as you click from listing to listing.
Maybe you already know what I’m going to say: Such a Web site already exists! When you go to www.ChristianChurchToday.com and click on the Locator button, you’ll find just the listing I’m describing.
Except for one important factor: The listings are only as accurate as someone from each church can make them. And many, many of the listings are out of date.
Now is the time for your church to verify your church’s information on the Christian Church Today site.
Just go to www.ChristianChurchToday.com . Follow the prompts after you click on the Locator button to find the listing for your church. (Enjoy reading about other churches in your area or across the country on your way.) Click on the line that tells you how to update your church’s site, and then follow the instructions there.
While you’re visiting Christian Church Today, notice all the other features it offers. The colorful home page has interesting news bits and columns by thought provoking writers.
A Forums section features lively discussion on everything from theology to practical ministry. A long list of Job Openings tells about places looking for vocational Christian workers. The Calendar pages list upcoming events. Who We Are explains the history and ideals of the Restoration Movement. It’s a perfect place for those outside our fellowship to discover the Restoration ideal.
That’s a major goal for Christian Church Today: to present a picture of our churches for those outside our movement who want to know more about us. This is another reason for you to update your listing on the site. Accurate lists of baptisms and giving and attendance indicate the activity and growth happening in our fellowship of churches.
If you don’t believe you are the person who should update your church’s listing, please give this column to the person who should. It’s easy. It won’t take long. When all of us participate, the result will be wonderful.
Why don’t you do this today?
