Central Brazil Mission Dedicates New Medical Boat

by | 21 May, 2012 | 0 comments

The Central Brazil Mission recently dedicated a new medical boat that will be used by short-term mission teams to provide basic medical and dental care for families who live in remote villages along the Amazon River and its tributaries.

The two-story boat was custom-made for the mission and includes first-floor medical and dental offices and treatment rooms. On the second floor are crew quarters, a kitchen, dining room, and dormitory rooms for visiting mission teams.

Since starting with a remodeled used wooden boat in 2000, the Amazon Boat Ministry has established more than 20 new village churches. After initial contact is made with a village through the use of the medical boat, several follow-up visits are made to cultivate a relationship between the mission and the village. The mission staff then works with village leaders to establish a church there, while also providing a pastor/missionary. CBM is hoping to increase the number of yearly short-term trips from 10 to 15.

The short-term mission teams typically have 12 to 15 members; one or more stateside churches can sponsor/provide worker teams. Churches and individuals interested in sponsoring a team may contact Earl Haubner at [email protected]. Additional information is available at www.cbm.org.br.

Earl and Ruth Anne Haubner have served as missionaries in Brazil since 1969.

Borrowed by the Lord

The Lord has given us far more blessings than we deserve. So let’s hold our possessions loosely and cheerfully hand over anything the Lord can use to expand his kingdom.

Following Through … Even Years Later

I want to speak to those, like me, who once upon a time made a commitment to serve. I thought that chapter had closed. My commitment that summer circa 1993 may not have panned out how I expected, but I think that through the working of the Spirit, the love of the Son, and the guidance of the Father it is still something I’m called to do.
