Veteran Kentucky horse breeder Beau Lane, 76, experienced his most successful auction in September and Bedford Acres Christian Church in Paris, Ky., will see a financial boost because of it.
Bloodhorse.com reported that Lane, who with his wife, Gail, operates 160-acre Woodline Farm in Bourbon County, Ky., promised God that he would donate $100,000 of his auction proceeds on 12 yearlings to the Lord . . . if God blessed him with $1 million in sales.
Lane said he was expecting only about $800,000 during the Keeneland September Yearling Sale that concluded Sept. 23. But those 12 yearlings ended up selling for $1.89 million. One of Lane’s horses sold for $600,000.
“I made a mistake. I should have asked for $2 million,” Lane joked to Bloodhorse.com. “I had $1 million by the end of Book 1. I have never had a sale this good. I’m blessed.”
The auction took place at the Keeneland race track in Lexington. Lane, a veteran consignor who has bred, raised, and sold horses most of his life, is a member of Bedford Acres.
“That little church has been in debt for a long time, and this will help them out,” Lane said.

The library at Cincinnati Christian University will display archaeological items—some dating back 5,000 years—along with historical and archival items in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Alumni who come for Homecoming Oct. 27 will receive a personal tour. After that, the special displays will be open to the public. Special receptions will take place Nov. 14 (the anniversary of R.C. Foster’s dedication address) and Feb. 19 (the anniversary of the day books were moved from the old to the new library facility).

First Christian Church, Dyersburg, Tenn., has sold pumpkins as a fund-raiser annually since 2004, with proceeds used to provide about 350 Thanksgiving baskets to families in need.

LifeBridge Christian Church in Longmont, Colo., is tackling the deep social issue of pornography head-on by hosting a “Porn Weekend” starting tomorrow.
The church will launch a sermon series called “Taboo” by bringing in guest speakers Ben and Emily Sledge of XXXchurch; the Sledges are experts in pornography and sexual addiction.
The weekend activities at LifeBridge include classes for men, women, and students that address each group’s specific connection to pornography.
