Jack Cottrell, longtime professor of theology at Cincinnati Christian University (who retired in 2015), announced via Facebook that โmy cancer has been determined to be incurable.โ
Cottrell, the author of more than 20 books on Christian theology and doctrine, said he is stepping down as part-time teaching minister with First Church of Christ, Greendale, Ind. Cottrell said his oncologist has assigned palliative chemotherapy for six months, but โit may have bad side effectsโ which would make it difficult for him to fulfill his teaching duties at the church.
โTonight I will teach my final regular lesson for FCC, and perhaps for my 65-year ministry,โ Cottrell wrote on Sunday. โI thank God for His mercies, and I thank all of you for your care and prayers.โ

Fortville (Ind.) Christian Church will celebrate its 150th anniversary Sunday with a former minister of the church, Dale Holzbauer, bringing the message, followed by a catered lunch and a community carnival. The church also will start an around-the-clock, out-loud reading of the entire Bible in the churchโs lobby that should conclude Wednesday.
The theme of the celebration will be โRooted,โ as in โrooted in the Word,โ according to a feature story in the Greenfield Reporter.

A major obstacle to growth and a contributor to low team morale โhas to do with leaders who fail to delegate,โ Ron Edmondson writes at Outreachmagazine.com.
Edmondson lists several reasons leaders fail to delegate, including: (1) it might cause them to appear to be doing less (โSome leaders struggle with giving assignments away for fear that people will think they arenโt working as hard as they could beโ); and (2) they fear losing authority (โDelegation, if it is done right, means they give up the right to control every outcomeโ).
