RiverTree Christian Church formally opened its eighth regional campus on Sunday. In downtown Canton, Ohio, First Church of the Resurrection had been meeting in a historic building that dates to the 1800s, but its membership had dwindled. At the end of the summer, the congregation voted to officially “come under RiverTree,” according to Johanna Artzner, who serves with the megachurch in Northeastern Ohio.
RiverTree actually had been in partnership with First Church for several years, and had owned the historic building where it operated the One Center for Leadership—which fosters church leaders and provides space for community interaction—since 2018, according to an article in the Canton Repository.
“We get to be part of a legacy that existed long before us and, Lord willing, will extend generations and another 200-plus years after us, too,” said RiverTree vision leaders Jason Lantz.

Crossroads Christian Church, Shawnee, Kan., has established an online giving portal to donate funds to family members who were attacked and had their home set on fire Sept. 16. Matthew Lee Richards is charged with five counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated arson in the alleged attack on his wife and five children. He served as children’s pastor of the church for seven years, KCTV5.com reported.
