Milligan University recently announced the passing of Dr. C. Robert Wetzel, a highly respected scholar and prominent leader within Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. Wetzel passed away at his home near Johnson City, TN.

Dr. Bill Greer announced during morning chapel service today that he will retire as president of Milligan University in 2024, after the next school year. “It has been a true blessing and honor to lead Milligan, and I am extremely proud of the mission-focused work that we have accomplished together,” said Greer, who became president in 2011. . . .

Lilly Endowment Inc. awarded Milligan University a $999,230 grant to review and redesign the academic programs offered through Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan.
A Lilly Endowment grant will support efforts by Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan University in addressing challenges that limit prospective students and underrepresented populations from attending and graduating.

Several students were recognized for their scholarship at the Stone-Campbell Journal Conference in September. For the second consecutive year, Joel Childers, a graduate student at Abilene (Texas) Christian University, received the Isaac Errett Award. His winning paper this year was titled, “Responses to the Attack on Pearl Harbor in Journals from the Methodist Church and Churches of Christ.” Childers received a $250 prize provided by the Disciples of Christ Historical Society. What distinguished them from today’s short haircuts was that the closely cropped hair of the crew cut had to stand straight up. This necessitated at least two occasions of special care. Marshall Leggett, 90, the 13th president of Milligan College in Tennessee, passed away Monday morning, the school announced. He had suffered a recent stroke. Leggett served as Milligan’s president from 1982 to 1997.
